your light will shine when all else fades

having been in indonesia for so long, with hardly any friends/acquaintances, and zero friends to chat and confide in, i've been thinking of what true friendship means, for me at least. yeah, it's the old thingum about how u only fully appreciate things when u dun have it. i'll quote from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho: "The dunes are changed by the wind, but the desert never changes. That's the way it will be with our love for each other." "If what one finds if made of pure matter, it will never spoil. And one can always come back. If what you had found was only a moment of light, like the explosion of a star, you would find nothing on your return."
then if true friendship is pure matter, and does not spoil; it's form changes but in itself never changes, then perhaps... though we may change as time goes by, we can always return to one another. the honesty and acceptance we have for one another, the trust, the love and the importance that we show for one another will never change. though we may be scattered all over the world, we still share the same sky above our heads, the same earth beneath our feet. and all the past, present and future that we have shared, am sharing and will share, will never lose their value in our hearts....
