There are several daily observations of people's behaviour that I find really strange. Let's just say I like to people-watch. Disclaimer: Some responses are personal and can be limited views.
1. Public Displays of Affection (aka PDA) on public buses
Yes, the Singapore government is stepping up measures to battle terrorism by putting up cameras on every public bus in Singapore. We don't pretend that we do not know that in the middle of the bus there is this additional lump of thing called the surveillance camera. We also know that the bus driver is surveying us through those cameras. Then why is it that many young couples have no reservations about behaving amorously in buses, with the camera RECORDING their every behaviour, oh and of course half of the bus is watching and the bus driver is dangerously distracted from the road. It's one thing to be seen by many people, and another to be recorded while in the act. Sometimes I wish I could carry a banner that says, "Get a room!" so that I can flash it to those funny couples.
2. Guys carrying woman's handbag (not shopping bags).
I don't know if this is done out of love or whatever. The sight of guys carrying something that is distinctly a woman's handbag is just soooo..... INCONGRUENT. I can understand if the guy is waiting outside the toilet and out of gentlemanly behaviour is helping the lady to hold on to her bag while she's in the toilet. But there also times when the girl is walking next to the guy, not holding onto anything, and the guy is carrying her handbag for her, along with many shopping bags, and her hand. Looks overloaded. I know of nice guys who don't mind carrying handbags for girls, but ladies, why don't you carry your own bag? It serves as a good weapon for hitting lechers with, and you don't have to resort to your expensive stilettos!
3. The teenage girls' fashion statement--> butt-skimming shorts, spaghetti strap/ tank tops, flip flops.
They are everywhere! I don't board a bus without seeing at least one girl wearing such an ensemble. I have strong opinions about baring EVERYTHING at the same time, cleavage, legs, butt, feet. I feel that it has this lack of 'class' and elegance when so much skin is bared at the same time. We don't have to look like we're too poor to buy cloth while battling Singapore's hot weather, seriously.
4. Smoking
I'm very against smoking so yes my views on smoking are terribly biased. But really, is there a good reason for smoking? It chronically kills the smoker, kills the people around the smoker, pollutes the air, harms the thousands of abused children who roll cigarettes for a living and thus they have nicotine poisoning, litters the land, etc etc. I wish there is an invention called the 'cigarette extinguisher' that has a little water gun with an automatic targetting system that will only put out the cigarette but not wet the smoker. Combined with the water gun is a perfume atomiser so that after putting out the cigarette, it will spray perfume or deodorizer to remove the smell of the cigarette smoke, and the harmful gaseous particles along with it.
