From Warrior of the Light by Paulo Coelho
synesthesia. A condition in which the stimulus of a certain sense provokes perception in another. Those who suffer from this type of disorder confuse sounds with smells, sights with taste, colors with touch (not necessarily in that logical order). But what fascinated me most in my research was to find out that what we perceive through our five senses is not an absolute truth. Synesthetic people have a notion of the world completely different from ours, though this does not prevent them from leading a relatively normal life.

what would it be like if our senses are different from what they are now? what if we see the world in a different light? maybe in black and white? or maybe when they're all jumbled up? things will be different, a little confusing perhaps. but maybe if all of us have different sensual perceptions of the world, then we might not have as much common perceptions that we associate with another. we might not appreciate poetry in the way the poet meant it to be. we might not identify with one another the way we do now. but maybe, it is interesting to see things differently.
